CARE AND CLEANING

Care and Cleaning Guidelines
A soft cotton cloth dampened with warm water is usually sufficient to clean your cabinets. If more thorough cleaning is required, use one of the following cleaning solutions:

• A fresh solution of dishwashing liquid mixed with warm water.
• A mild all-purpose cleaner. Make sure it does not contain ammonia or silicone.

Use the mildest cleaning solution that will successfully clean your cabinets. Stronger products may damage or discolor your cabinet finish and are not recommended. After cleaning, wipe all surfaces with a clean, damp cloth. Dry immediately, using another soft, clean cloth.

Splatters and Spills
Clean spills and splatters immediately. Prolonged exposure to spills, including food, water or other liquids, or to oil and grease splatters, can cause permanent discoloration or damage to your cabinet’s finish.

Cleaning Products to Avoid
Avoid using the following cleaning products on your cabinets:

• Harsh chemicals.
• Abrasive cleaning products such as tub and sink cleansers, scouring powder, scouring pads or steel wool.
• Sponges or dish clothes. They may contain particles that could scratch your cabinets, or they may contain food and oil residue.
• Solvent-based or petroleum-based products such as mineral spirits, nail-polish removers or paint thinners.
• Ammonia or cleaning products that include ammonia.
• Bleach or cleaning products that include bleach.
• Silicone-based cleaning, waxing or polishing products.

Regular Dusting
Use a clean, soft, lint-free cotton cloth for regular dusting. Packaged dusting sheets are not required or recommended. Do not use pre-moistened dusting sheets, and do not use aerosol products made for dusting.

Waxing and Polishing
Waxing is not required or recommended. Over time, waxing and polishing compounds may build up on the surface of your cabinets and cause a hazy, streaky or yellowed appearance. This wax build up is very difficult to remove.

Cleaning Glass Doors
Extra care is required when cleaning glass doors. Spray an ammonia-free glass cleaner on a clean, soft, lint-free cloth or paper towel. Do not spray cleaner directly on the glass. It could seep behind the window dividers and cause damage.

Scratches, Gouges and Nicks A touch-up kit is available to hide surface damage. Contact The Home Depot where you purchased your cabinetry to purchase the color-matched touch-up kit for your specific cabinets.
Use the kit’s touch-up pen to hide minor blemishes. Use the kit’s tinted putty stick to fill deeper scratches, gouges or nicks. Detailed instructions are provided in each kit.

Avoid Moisture Damage
Avoid draping damp clothes or dish towels over cabinet doors. This moisture can cause permanent damage—such peeling and discoloration—to the cabinet’s finish.

Avoid Heat Damage
The heat generated when using an oven’s self-cleaning feature is much greater than during normal cooking. If this heat escapes from the oven, it can damage your cabinets. While this is a rare circumstance, you can minimize the risk of cabinet damage by removing cabinet doors and drawers nearest the oven before using its self-cleaning feature.

Avoid Light Damage
Exposure to direct sunlight tends to darken the color of natural wood products. Sunlight can also fade painted wood surfaces, laminated surfaces and thermofoil surfaces. You should consider draperies or blinds to shield your cabinets from direct sunlight.

CHARACTERISTICS OF OUR WOOD TYPES

No matter which species you choose for your new kitchen or bath cabinetry, please keep in mind that no two pieces of wood are exactly the same. Stains are likely to exaggerate the difference between open and closed grains and other markings in wood. Grain variation and colour change should be expected. As hardwood ages, it will darken when exposed to different types of light. Colour differences or changes in wood can also be caused by exposure to harsh chemicals, extreme heat, moisture, or other contributing external conditions. Additionally, wood species exhibit other defining characteristics, such as mineral deposits/streaks, knots, sap runs, pin holes and wormholes. These markings make the wood unique and contribute to its enduring beauty.

Bamboo is a close-grained product with narrow linear sections. Surface streaks which appear like hairline cracks are normal and do not constitute a defect. Darker spots appear where the natural joints between the culm (stem) sections occur. The range of colouration between the narrow sections can be from light to dark. There is no stain on our Bamboo—we finish it with a clear topcoat only. The fastest-growing plant on earth, Bamboo is an ecologically friendly product and exhibits excellent characteristics for veneer production.

Cherry is characterized by its red undertones, but may vary in colour from white to a deep, rich brown. Cherry is a close-grained wood with fairly uniform texture, revealing pin knots and curly graining. All wood will age with time and the finish will darken. This is especially true for cherry. This is a sought-after quality in cherry cabinetry, and those who select it expect this evolution.

Maple is a close-grained hardwood that is predominately white to creamy-white in colour, with occasional reddish-brown tones. While maple typically features uniform graining as compared to other wood species, characteristic markings may include fine brown lines, wavy or curly graining, pecks and mineral streaks. These traits are natural and serve to enhance maple’s inherent beauty.

Melamine provides a beautiful, durable, easy-to-clean surface. Melamine is a resin-impregnated decorative paper, thermally fused to furniture board core material. Thermal fusion takes place under heat and pressure that permanently bonds the paper to the core material.

Oak is a strong, open-grained hardwood that ranges in colour from white to pink and reddish tones. Streaks of green, yellow and even black may appear due to mineral deposits. Oak may also contain wormholes and wild, varying grain patterns. This distinct graining is considered a desirable quality.

Rustic Alder is classified as a hardwood, but it is moderately light in weight and considerably softer than other species. Therefore, care must be taken as it will dent and mar easily. Rustic Alder is characterized by its light brown and reddish undertones and may contain a variety of pin holes, open and closed knots of various sizes and colours, small cracks, bird pecks, mineral streaks, and grain variation. Some knots may have small holes through the panel. Larger holes will not be filled. In addition, the wood will contain colour differences caused by variations in minerals found in the soil, creating visible mineral tracks.

Thermofoil doors and drawer fronts feature a shaped core covered with a seamless vinyl laminate on the face and edges, and a melamine laminate on the back. The vinyl laminate is applied to the core material with an adhesive using heat and pressure to create a product with excellent wear and heat resistance properties.

A – Nouveau features European full-access, or frameless, construction in styles ranging from transitional to contemporary, whereas the Classic collection is built with ¾”-thick solid hardwood face frames and features more traditional designs. Each collection offers a range of construction options to suit any budget, and an almost endless selection of door styles, finishes and extras for any room and design theme you have in mind.

Q – How quickly is Thomasville Cabinetry delivered?
A – Your cabinets will deliver to your home approximately 4 weeks (for Thomasville Nouveau) to 5 weeks (for Thomasville Classic) after order confirmation. Cabinets are delivered directly to your home by one of our delivery agents within one week of their receiving the product. The agent will contact you within 48 hours of their receiving the product to make arrangements for delivery.

Q – Do the cabinet finishes match Thomasville furniture finishes?

Consumers today desire a complementary look throughout their homes, rather than having all of their home furnishings match exactly.
